New York’s 27-Year-Old Contestant Shines with Authenticity, Talent, and a Powerful Message of Self-Expression
Miss America has crowned its newest titleholder, and this year the honor goes to Cassie Donegan of New York. The 27-year-old contestant triumphed at the national pageant held on Sunday, September 7, at the Walt Disney Theater in Orlando, Florida, earning the coveted crown, sash, and a $50,000 tuition scholarship.
Donegan, who won the Miss New York state title in July, stood out among 52 women representing all 50 states. She was crowned by outgoing Miss America 2025, Abbie Stockard of Alabama, after surpassing first runner-up Miss Texas Sadie Schiermeyer and second runner-up Miss Florida Paris Richardson.
The two-day competition featured preliminary rounds and a final showcase, with contestants challenged in multiple categories including interviews, evening wear, and talent. Donegan impressed not only with her vocal performance — which won her the Miss America 2026 Talent Competition — but also with her thoughtful perspective during the rapid-fire question segment.
Asked about “authentic self-expressions” in relation to professional standards, Donegan delivered a heartfelt response:
“I believe that being true to yourself 100 percent is the most important thing that you can do, and if that includes your self-expression through piercings or tattoos, then 100 percent do it. I think that no one has the right to tell you what you can do with your own body. This is your vessel, and you should be able to walk around proudly in it.”
The winner also charmed the audience with her humor and individuality, sharing that her siblings lovingly call her personal style “grandma chic.”
Beyond her poise and confidence, Donegan is a gifted singer and an accomplished performer, qualities that helped propel her to the national spotlight. Her combination of talent, intelligence, and authenticity ultimately secured her victory and captivated both the judges and the crowd.
